What is engineered wood?
Engineered wood flooring is made from a real wood top layer bonded to multiple layers of plywood or high-density fiberboard, making it more stable than solid wood while maintaining a natural appearance.
What's the difference between engineered wood & laminate flooring?
Laminate flooring is a synthetic product designed to mimic wood using a photographic layer, while engineered wood has a real timber surface. Laminate is typically more affordable and resistant to scratches.
What is SPC LVT?
SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) LVT is a rigid vinyl flooring made from a mix of limestone and stabilizers. It’s highly durable, waterproof, and ideal for high-traffic or moisture-prone areas.
Which flooring is most suitable for kitchen & bathrooms?
SPC LVT is the best overall choice for wet areas due to its waterproof properties. Some laminates are water-resistant, but engineered wood is generally less suitable for high-moisture spaces.
Can engineered wood be sanded & refinished?
Yes, engineered wood can often be sanded and refinished depending on the thickness of the top veneer layer, allowing you to refresh its appearance over time.
How long does flooring typically last?
- Engineered wood: 20–50 years (with proper care)
- Laminate: 10–25 years
- SPC LVT: 15–30 years

Engineered Wood - FAQs
Can i install Engineered Wood in wet rooms?
Because engineered wood flooring would begin to swell if it came into contact with a lot of water, we would never recommend installing it in a bathroom. However, because the surface is water resistant, any pre-finished Engineered Wood Flooring products can survive spills and splashes to some degree.
Can engineered wood be used with underfloor heating?
Engineered wood flooring can be used with underfloor heating, although we recommend that the temperature not be higher than 27 degrees Celsius.
Is Engineered Wood scratch resistant?
We make sure to apply several coats when completing our Engineered Wood Flooring products, strengthening the protection and making them incredibly difficult to chip and scratch.
Can Engineered Wood be sanded down?
Absolutely! This is one of the main advantages of Engineered Wood, that you can sand it down and refinish it multiple times. This extends the life span of the floor. It should be noted however that you likely will not need to sand any of our engineered wood products for the first 10-15 years after installation, as the purpose of sanding and refinishing a floor is to make it look as good as new.
Does Engineered Wood need to acclimatise?
Yes. We always advise that you give the space where the floor will be installed at least 36 hours (1.5 days). In this manner, you can be certain that your engineered wood flooring is ready for installation.
When installing Engineered Wood do i need to leave an expansion gap?
It is crucial to leave at least a 10mm expansion gap when installing an engineered wooden floor so that the floor may breathe. Because engineered wood flooring is a natural product, it will expand and contract slightly, therefore an expansion gap is crucial. Beading or skirting boards can also fill in an expansion gap.
Is Engineered Wood soundproof or will i be able to hear it when i walk on it?
It is crucial to lay your engineered wood flooring on an even subfloor to avoid any creaks or squeaks. The flooring may slide and squeak if the subfloor is not level.
Laminate Flooring - FAQs
Can i install Laminate Flooring in wet rooms?
Although laminate flooring may withstand a fair quantity of water, it is not completely waterproof. Cleaning up spills and leaks as soon as possible is always the best course of action.
Can Laminate Flooring be used with underfloor heating?
Laminate Flooring can be used with underfloor heating, although we recommend that the temperature not be higher than 27 degrees Celsius.
Is Laminate Flooring scratch resistant?
Because laminate flooring products have incredibly durable and scratch-resistant surfaces, you don't have to worry about pets, for example, causing damage to the surface.
Does Laminate Flooring need to acclimatise?
Yes. We think it's best to allow a laminate floor at least 48 hours (2 days) to acclimatise. This will guarantee the finest outcomes with the least amount of risk. Make sure the flooring is laid flat to prevent damage and placed in the room where it will be acclimated to the proper conditions. If necessary, you can stack packs to conserve space.
When installing laminate flooring do i need to leave an expansion gap?
Yes, it is essential to leave an expansion gap around the perimeter of the room, typically around 10–15mm. Laminate flooring is a floating floor and naturally expands and contracts with changes in temperature and humidity. The expansion gap allows the floor to move without causing buckling or damage. Skirting boards or beading are then used to cover the gap for a neat finish.
Is Laminate Flooring soundproof or will i be able to hear it when i walk on it?
It is crucial to lay your Laminate Flooring on an even subfloor to avoid any creaks or squeaks. The flooring may slide and squeak if the subfloor is not level.
